14U GOLD Celebrate Matt Cunningham's Homerun
14U GOLD
Tim Daley’s 14U GOLD Seadogs hosted and won a four team Memorial Day weekend tournament at Strong Field in East Bridgewater to close out their season with a fourteen game winning streak finishing at 18-4.
Seadogs 9, Shoveltown 2
After four starts and twenty two innings on the mound it finally happened…lefty Sam Moor (Taunton) allowed an earned run. But not before Seadogs Gold had piled up a 9-0 lead after six-and-a-half innings. Much of Gold’s offense came from the one-two spots in the order where leadoff man, Matt Cunningham (Weymouth) reached base in three of his four plate appearances, scored twice and slammed a three run home run…and Mason Johnson (Norwell) who was 2-for-4 had an RBI and a pair of steals.
Seadogs 12, RBI Hawks 4
The first five hitters in the ballgame for Gold all reached and four of them scored for a quick 4-0 lead. Mason Johnson got the win on the mound to finish the season with a 6-0 mark. Johnson, Matt Cunningham, Chris DeGiacomo (Norwell) and Sam Moor each had two hits and Tommy Larason (Norwell) drove in a pair in the win.
Seadogs 6, Mass Athletics 2
Seadogs ran in a quick six runs in the top of the first, Matt Cunningham, Chris DeGiacomo,
Sam Moor, Alex Greco (Hamilton), Casey Rasak (Kingston) and Nick Chapman (Easton) all crossing the plate. And then it ended. Gold went hitless and scoreless over the next six innings leaving it to Tyler Walsh (Scituate) and Kyle Lussier (Hingham) to shut things down on the mound to end at 3-0 in tournament round robin play.
Seadogs Gold 13, RBI Hawks 3
Gold trailed 3-2 in the tournament title game going to the bottom of the third when Mario Picariello (Weymouth) led the inning with a single and was the first of five Seadogs to score and change the momentum of the game. Chris DeGiacomo (Norwell) scored three times…Casey Rasak (Kingston) had two hits and two RBI and Jack O’Reilly’s (Abington) double in that big third inning accounted for two more.
11U GOLD
The 11U GOLDS won one of three on the holiday weekend.
Hit Doctor Diamonds 18, Seadogs 4
Luke Buckovich (Scituate) pitched well but the Dogs were their own worst enemy as a couple of bad innings put them out of the game. Sam Edge (Weymouth) had two hits and Larry Cummings (Kingston) and Reid Walsh (Brookline) each had a hit in defeat.
Hit Doctor Diamonds 5, Seadogs 2
TJ Mullen (Hingham) pitched four innings of one run ball and the Seadogs took a 2-1 lead into the fourth before the Hit Doctor Diamonds tallied four runs to conclude the sweep.
Seadogs 3, Plymouth 11U Stars 2
Nick DelVecchio’s (Braintree) two-run, bases loaded single in the seventh proved to be the winning hit as the Seadogs held on with two Plymouth runners being thrown out at the plate in the bottom half. Iron man James Sneyd (Scituate) was the complete game winner. On consecutive plays, shortstop James Long (Milton) threw to catcher Anthony Doherty (Marshfield) to cut down runs at the plate. The second one ended the game in dramatic fashion. Sam Edge continued his hot hitting with a triple while Long had two hits.
11U BLUE
The Seadogs lost in the finals of the Atlantic Mariners four team weekend tourney.
Seadogs 10, Atlantic Mariners Appuzzi 3
Winning pitcher Andrew Giovanetti (Weymouth) tossed four solid innings (0 ER) and a six run top of the sixth secured the win. Kyle Sylvester (Hanover) led off the big inning with a homerun and also had a double. Alex Kennedy (Weymouth) also homered. Brendan Coughlan (Braintree) and Gavyn White (Rockland) each added two hits.
Atlantic Mariners GRIFFIN 13, Seadogs 2
The Mariners escaped a bases loaded, no out situation in the top of the third as the Dogs tried to get back into the game. Otherwise, it was all Mariners in this championship game. TJ Keefe (Weymouth) had a pair of hits and Will Spring (Weymouth) had an RBI single.
15U
The 15U Seadogs got their season underway on Sunday in Easton with a split with Shoveltown.
Seadogs 6, Shoveltown 0
Ryan Jones (Weymouth) pitched a complete game four hit shutout (8 K’s, 1 BB). Offensively, Andrew Scheim (Rockland) had two hits, two steals and two runs scored. The big hit was delivered by fourteen year-old callup Nick Valicenti (Braintree) with a two-run, seventh inning triple that broke the game open. Alex Walsh (Brookline) reached base four times while Dan Giurini (Medfield) was on base twice and scored a run.
Shoveltown 23, Seadogs 20
The second game was an old fashioned slugfest. Ricky Smith (Weymouth) had a homerun and five RBI, Mike Umano (Weymouth) had four hits, Anthony Rioles (Weymouth) was two for four with a triple and every Seadog player scored at least one run. Unfortunately, the Shoveltown bats were just as good and some errors hurt the Seadogs and resulted in a football score loss. There were no field goals.
