Matt Cunningham’s (Weymouth) bases clearing double sparked a four run third inning to turn a tight, one run game into a 7-2 lead for the Seadogs who rolled from there, scoring in every inning on the way to the win. AJ Ferrara (N. Easton) got the win, going five innings in relief of David Hutchins (Hingham) who reached his tournament innings limit after working the first two. Tommy Larason (Norwell) was 5 for 5 with three runs scored and two RBI. Sam Moor (Taunton) went 2 for 3, scored twice and drove in a run. Cunningham finished 2 for 3 and both Nick Chapman (N. Easton) and Hutchins had two hits.

Sporting a .500 record after 12 games, the 16U Seadogs went on to win 12 of their final 13 games to finish the season with an 18-7 record. The ‘Dogs captured the 16U NEAAU Championship and wrapped the season by winning the South New Hampshire Invitational.
NEAAU 16U Championship
With rain washing out the preliminary round of the NEAAU 16U Championship, the Seadogs advanced to the semi-finals by virtue of their 9-2 regular season record.
Seadogs 10 Boston Jr. Rams 4
Trailing 4-1 after 2 innings, Drew Saltmarsh (Weymouth) came on in relief and shut down the high-powered Rams offense. Saltmarsh allowed 1 hit and 1 walk over 5 innings while striking out 4. Down 2 runs in the 5th, Ricky Smith (Weymouth) blasted a 3-run homer with 2 outs to give the ‘Dogs a lead they would not relinquish. Alex Moses-Gardner (Brookline), Pat Carroll (Norwell), Tommy Landry (Hingham), and Smith added RBI hits in the 6th. Landry finished the day with 3 hits and Smith reached base 4 times.
Seadogs 6 Atlantic Mariners 4
Facing the previously unbeaten Mariners, the Seadogs got an emotional lift from bat boy Patrick Tevenan and a strong pitching performance from Chris LeClair (Scituate) to capture the NEAAU 16U
crown. The ‘Dogs took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd when Drew Saltmarsh doubled and later came around to score on a Sean McWade (Weymouth) RBI groundout. Hits from Stephan White (Hingham), Saltmarsh, McWade and Brian Biagini (Weymouth) in the 6th and Landry, Carroll and Moses-Gardner in the 7th provided a little cushion for the pitching staff. LeClair went 6 1/3 allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits while walking 3. White came on in the 7th and with the tying run at 2nd, got a flyout to end the game.
SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE INVITATIONAL
Seadogs 2 Cape Riptide 0
Kyle Healy (Cohasset) was impressive on the mound as he held the Riptide hitless through five innings. In a scoreless game with runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out in the top of the 6th, Healy handed the ball over to Tommy Landry (Hingham) who retired the next two hitters to work out of the jam. The ‘Dogs carried that momentum into the bottom of the 6th when Brian Biagini (Weymouth) and Connor Goetz (Cohasset) led off with base-hits. Landry blasted a double to score both runners and provide the games only scoring as he went on to retire the side in the 7th. Drew Saltmarsh (Weymouth) and Goetz finished with 2 hits apiece.
Nor’Easters 9 Seadogs 2
Tyler Serra (Scituate) kept the ‘Dogs in the game early, holding the Nor’Easters to 2 runs through his first 5 innings, but it wasn’t enough as Seadog pitching was touched up for 7 runs in the final 2 frames. Stephan White (Hingham) hit a 2-run homer in the 7th to prevent the shutout and added 2 runs on the Nor’Easters for the all-important “Runs Against” pool play tie-breaker
Seadogs 8 MMV Thunder 0
The Seadogs entered the final game of pool play needing a win and a shut-out to guarantee advancing to the championship round. Brody Loughlin (Rockland) took to the hill and held the Thunder hitless until the fifth, striking out seven, providing the shutout the Seadogs desperately needed. Brian Biagini and Chris LeClair (Scituate) each homered and scored twice to power the offense.
Seadogs 8 Royals 3
The Seadogs faced local foe Royals Baseball Academy in the semi-finals and received another strong pitching performance from Drew Saltmarsh. Saltmarsh scattered 3 runs on 4 hits over 6 and 1/3 innings. Up 4-3 entering the 5th inning, Tommy Larason (Norwell) led off with a double and scored on a Tommy Landry hit to give the ‘Dogs some breathing room. Kyle Healy’s 2-run double in the 6th helped break things open. Landry finished with 3 hits while Saltmarsh added 2 more. Sean McWade (Weymouth) retired both batters he faced to close the door in the 7th.
Seadogs 10 Concord (NH) Cannons 4
The Seadogs had solid contributions from the entire line-up to secure the South New Hampshire Invitational Championship. Connor Goetz and Drew Saltmarsh led the way with 3 hits each, while Tommy Landry and Stephan White added 2 apiece. White’s presence was also felt defensively as he continued the dazzling outfield play that he displayed throughout the season. Ryan Jones (Weymouth) showed his toughness on the mound working in and out difficult situations allowing only 1 while stranding 7 Cannon base-runners through his first 4 innings. Jones handed the ball over to Goetz with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the 5th with the tying run at the plate. Goetz earned a strikeout to end the threat and proceeded to pitch 2 more scoreless innings.
Goetz reached base in 8 of his final 9 plate appearances in the tournament while Saltmarsh had 6 hits in his final 7 at-bats.
