11U BLUES Enjoy the NEAAU Super Division Tourney!

June 15, 2010

Eliot Hillstrand

11U BLUE

The 11U BLUES advanced the Final Four on Sunday before bowing out to the eventual chamoin Firebirds 3-2.

Seadogs 14, RI Rays 7

On Friday the Seadogs shocked the #1 seeded Rhode Island Rays with a combination of lethal hitting and effective pitching. Seadogs amassed twelve hits in a game where Cole Roland going 4 for 4 was rendered pedestrian by Eliot Hillstrand’s 2 home runs and 7 RBIs and back to back solo shots by Griffin Burke and Shane Curran. Mike Reilly and Trent Cooley neutralized the normally potent hitting attack of the Rays scattering six hits.

Seadogs 12, South Coast Kings 1

The Seadogs “run ruled” the Kings, finishing the game in the 4th inning powered by another twelve hit barage and great pitching by Ryan Corcoran. Ryan was consistently down in the zone and allowed only three Kings to reach base in the game. Charlie Auditore, Shane Curran, Cole Roland each had two hits a piece and Griffin Burke went yard for the second time in the tournament.

Athlete’s Edge 4, Seadogs 3

Cole Roland was a hard luck loser scatttering just four hits in a complete game pitching performance. Edge pitching quieted the Seadog bats holding the team to three runs on just four singles.

Quarter Finals

Seadogs 7, Athletes Edge 6

Seadogs got the result they wanted in a rematch with the Athletes Edge team that beat them on the prior day. Griffin Burke and Charlie Auditore each had a multi hit game with Eliot Hillstrand legging out a rare (for him) triple. Mike Reilly and Trent Cooley showed tremendous heart on the mound pitching very well on short rest and in a few pressure packed situations.

Semi Finals

Firebirds 3, Seadogs 2

The Seadogs gave the #1 seeded Firebirds everything they could handle, leading late in the game but losing by a run in the last inning. Great pitching for both teams was the rule with as the Seaodgs were held to three hits and the Firebirds were held to four. Ryan Corcoran threw four terrific frames before running out of mound eligiblity. Eliot Hillstrand finished the game holding Firebirds to one run, that turned out to be one run too many. Antonio Tenaglia accounted for all of the Seaodgs run production with a 2 RBI double after being robbed of a base hit on a freak play earlier in the game.

12U

The 12U Seadogs played their best baseball of the year, advancing to the final six, single elimination round of the NEAAU Super Division tournament before bowing out.

Royals Academy 6, Seadogs 2

On Friday at Mercer Field, Seadogs starter Trevor Cooley allowed just one hit throught the first three innings before the Royals erupted for a five run fourth on their way to victory. Cooley had two of the Dogs five hits.

Seadogs 6, Tri Valley Phantoms 2

On Saturday at Gifford Park, Chris Ferraro (6 IP, 5 H, 3 BB’s, 3 K’s) threw a complete game and the Seadogs played flawless defense in a must win situation. Tyler Bell (3 for 3, 2 doubles, RBI, SB) and Chris O’Brien (3 RBI) led the Seadogs offense. Leftfielder Brian Panasuk made the play of the game as he crashed into the wall and reached over the fence to rob the Phantoms of a game tying homerun in the bottom of the fifth.

Seadogs 8, Athlete’s Edge 1

Later on Saturday, the Dogs secured their spot in the next round with another excellent pitching performance, this time from veteran Zack DelVecchio. DelVecchio allowed just two hits while fanning eleven in a complete game effort. With a 1-0 lead in the third the Dogs scored four times behind a two run bomb by Panasuk, his sixth of the year, and a two run double from Ferraro. Trevor Cooley also homered in the fifth. Bell, Panasuk and Cooley each had two hits.

Connecticut Capitals 7, Seadogs 4

On Sunday in Johnston, Rhode Island, the Capitals scored three in the first and three more in the second innings and held on for the win, eliminating the Seadogs. The Capitals had a strong lefthanded hurler on the hill who was apparently well rested. He went the distance and struckout thirteen despite giving up nine hits. Chris O’Brien continued his clutch hitting, with two more RBI hits. Panasuk added two hits while Chris Ferraro hit a long RBI triple in the sixth. Austin Barkas came on in relief to throw three solid innings.

13U BLUE

Seadogs BLUE 6, Seadogs GOLD 5

Johnny Rorke’s RBI single plated Matt Cunningham with the game winner. Dave Hutchins was the winning pitcher with two shutout innings of relief.

Seadogs BLUE 10, Seadogs GOLD 0

Dave Hutchins hit a line drive grand slam and Robbie Robinson added a homerun of his own in the rainy game two.

14 GOLD

USA Lightning 5, Seadogs 0

The Lightning broke open a 0-0 tie with five runs in the sixth. Sam D’Antuono pitched well in defeat. Kyle Holmberg had two hits including a double.

Dugout Dawgs 8, Seadogs 1

Colin Jones drove in the lone Seadogs run.
Ruffnecks 11, Seadogs 1

An eight run first led the way to this Ruffnecks victory.

Trevor Cooley

15U

The 15U Seadogs got their season underway on Saturday with a split against the Blackstone Valley Thunder.

Seadogs 8, BV Thunder 7

Winning pitcher Rob Madden pitched five strong innings and was relieved by Derek Bauer who battled through a bases loaded, no out jam in the 7th to close it out. Chris Leclair started a five run fifth with a booming double to right center. Derek Bauer had three hits in his Seadog debut and Madden, Evan Flanagan and Danny White scored two runs apiece to spark the first game win.

BV Thunder 6, Seadogs 2

Danny White pitched well but a four run Thunder fourth did in the Dogs. Evan Flanagan and Drew Saltmarsh had two hits each.
