Seadogs 13U Blue claim Cooperstown Baseball World (CBW) gold medals
John Ferrara’s 13 Blue Seadogs finished their season with a championship effort going 7-1 to win the tournament championship at Cooperstown Baseball World winning 16 of their last 19 games and finishing with an overall record of 29-22.
Seadogs 10, Inside Pitch Coyotes 1
Steve Cochrane, the first of four Seadog pitchers took the win with offensive support from David Hutchins (2-for-3/triple and 2 RBI), Robbie Robinson who drove in a pair of runs and stole two bases and A.J. Ferrara who banged a solo homer in the second inning.
Seadogs 15, Penfield (NY) 8
After relinquishing a 7-1 lead to trail 8-7, the Seadogs went to 2-0 in pool play with an eight run fifth inning. David Hutchins worked the first three innings and got the win while going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple and RBI to pace the attack. Tommy Larason drove in four runs, three on a bases loaded triple, and Mason Johnson was a perfect 3-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Seadogs 4, Oneonta (NY) Yetis 0
Robbie Robinson and Tommy Larason combined on a three hit shutout with five strike-outs and just one walk as the ‘Dogs won their third straight in pool play. Robinson got the win and Larason the save. Robinson got things started the right way with a leadoff home run in the first inning and was one of five Seadogs, Tommy Larason, A.J. Ferrara, Nick Chapman and David Hutchins the other four, with a pair of hits.
Explorers (USVI) 11, Seadogs 4
Seadogs fell behind the Explorers, a CBW defending champ from ’09, by a 4-0 count after the first inning and were humbled 11-4. Nick Valicenti went 2-for-3 with a triple to highlight the Seadog attack
Seadogs 12, Long Island (NY) Tornadoes 2
David Hutchins, A.J. Ferrara and Robbie Robinson led the attack as the ‘Dogs earned the 2nd seed in the championship tournament with a resounding win over the previously unbeaten and top-seeded Tornadoes. Hutchins was 2-for-2 with an RBI while Ferrara clubbed a home run and Robinson was a perfect 2-for-2 with a pair of steals. Matt Cunningham, Ferrara and Kyle Lussier combined to limit the Tornadoes to just three hits.
Seadogs 11, Oneonta (NY) Yetis 0
Robbie Robinson, Johnny Rorke, Steve Cochrane and A.J. Ferrara shared responsibility for the two hit shutout in the opening round of the championship tournament with Robinson getting the win. Ferrara swung a big stick with a 2-for-3, 3 RBI day. Four other ‘Dogs had two-hit efforts, Robinson, Tommy Larason, Nick Chapman and David Hutchins.
Seadogs 10, Explorers (USVI) 2
The Seadogs avenged their only CBW loss of the week in convincing fashion in the semi-finals pounding the powerful Explorers behind David Hutchins’ .dominant four-hit mound work. Hutchins aided his cause with three RBI as part of a 2-for-2 day at the plate with help from Tommy Larason (3-for-3/double/RBI), A.J. Ferrara’s 2-for-3 (RBI) and Mason Johnson’s 2-for-2 (RBI).

After giving up two runs in the top of the first in the title game the ‘Dogs exploded for six in the bottom of the inning to set the tone for the rest of the game. Nick Valicenti’s two hits (double/RBI) led the offense with Nick Chapman and Matt Cunningham each contributing two RBI. Starter, Steve Cochrane got the title game win going four strong innings on the mound.

At the same time, the 12U BLUE squad advanced to the Championship game at CBW before losing to St. Thomas of the US Virgin Islands, 5-4 in extra innings. Overall the 12U team went 6-2 in Cooperstown to cap off a strong finish to their season. They were unquestionably better at the end than at any other time in the season.

Seadogs 16, Greenwich (CT) Thunder 6
Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the second, the Dogs exploded for ten runs and cruised to the mercy shortened opening win on Sunday, August 1st. Tyler Bell, winner of the Homerun Derby the day before, homered twice and drove in seven runs. Zack DelVecchio and Harrison Pitts added two hits each to the twelve hit attack.
Seadogs 4, Oregon Cardinals 2
The Seadogs broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth and Zack DelVecchio tossed three scoreless innings of relief as the Seadogs advanced to 2-0 in Pool Play. Brian Panasuk singled twice and scored two runs in this well played and hard fought game.
Seadogs 9, Greenwich (CT) Thunder 8
Trailing 5-0 in the fourth, Brian Panasuk’s three run homerun was the key blow in the five run frame. The inning included seven hits but poor baserunning left the game tied at five. The Dogs scored four more in the seventh to take the extra inning victory. Raul Morales had the big RBI single in the seventh. Austin Barkas (5 IP, 4 H, 3 K’s) came out of the bullpen in the second and pitched five clutch shutout innings for the win. Drew Alexopoulos had three hits and two stolen bases to lead the thirteen hit attack.
Shedd Park (MA) 8, Seadogs 5
Shedd Park plated three runs in the top of the sixth to hand the Seadogs their first loss. Justin Fein (4 for 4) had a homerun, two doubles and three RBI from his leadoff spot. Trevor Cooley added apair of hits.
Seadogs 9, Mass Pride 8
Justin Fein, Trevor Cooley, Brian Panasuk and Tyler Bell led the attack with two hits each as the Seadogs hung on for the win. Zack DelVecchio recorded the save as he retired the last two hitters, fanning the final one with the tying run on third.
The Seadogs entered the single elimination portion of the Championship round as the #2 seed.
Seadogs 19, Mass Pride 1
Justin Fein (3 for 3) had a second inning grand slam to go with an RBI double to lead a sixteen hit attack. Drew Alexopoulos (3 for 3, double, 3 RBI) and Tyler Bell (3 for 3, double, 2 RBI) continued their hot hitting. Jared Hamilton added a towering three run homerun to close out the scoring.

Trevor Cooley (5 IP, 3 H, 6 K’s, 1 BB) was in complete command on the mound as the Seadog bats stayed hot as they advanced to the Championship finals. Brian Panasuk (2 for 2, HR, 3 RBI), Drew Alexopoulos (2 for 4, double, 2 RBI), Tyler Bell (2 for 3, double) and Chris Ferraro (2 for 3, double, 2 RBI) were the offensive stars.
St. Thomas (USVI) 4, Seadogs 3
In the Championship game, the Dogs entered their final at bat trailing 2-0, having mustered just two hits, before taking the lead with a three run sixth. A Drew Alexopoulos walk, a Trevor Cooley double and a Brian Panasuk walk loaded the bases with no outs. Tyler Bell grounded into a force play while the throw to first was wild and two runs scored. With two outs, Zack DelVecchio singled in Bell to give the Dogs a 3-2 lead heading to the bottom half. With one out, St. Thomas showed their championship mettle with a first pitch, game tying homerun to left. In the seventh they scored the game winner as they put together a two-out rally. Tyler Bell (6 2/3 IP, 1 BB, 6 K’s) pitched valiantly in a complete game effort.
