12U BLUE

The 12U BLUE Seadogs won seven straight before dropping the finale in 10 innings to the Texas Raiders at Cooperstown Baseball World. The Dogs represented themselves, the SSBC and all of Northeast baseball very well all week, as they flexed their muscles with nine different players contributing to their team total of twenty homeruns. Austin Salkind and Tommy Larason each hit five longballs over the eight games. David Hutchins also was outstanding as he was the Homerun Derby winner in the Skills Competition. Below is a review of all games:

Seadogs 11, Pico Boys (CA) 0

The Dogs opened up on Sunday as Dave Hutchins fanned 13 in a complete game one hitter. Austin Salkind slugged a pair of homers and was joined in the long ball parade by Mason Johnson (3 for 3) and Tommy Larason.

Seadogs 18, Churchville (MD) 2

The power display continued in game two on Sunday as winning pitcher Tommy Larason clubbed two homeruns and added five RBI's. Salkind, AJ Ferrara and Joe Roddy all went deep.

Seadogs 14, Hilltop (PA) 3

AJ Ferrara (3 for 4, HR, 2 RBI) and Tommy Larason homered in support of winning pitcher Nick Valicenti.

Seadogs 14, Sports Academy (IL) 0

The Dogs got back to back to back homeruns from Dave Hutchins, Dylan Russo and Matt Cunningham in the second inning and another later from Salkind as the assault continued. Johnny Rorke, the second of four Seadogs hurlers, got the win.

Seadogs 4, Texas Raiders 1

In a prelude to the eventual championship matchup, Dave Hutchins went 2 for 3 with three RBI and Tommy Larason tossed three shutout innins of relief for the win to end Pool Play on Tuesday.

Seadogs 13, SYSA Braves (NY) 3

The Seadogs now entered Tournament Play with a 5-0 record and the #1 seed. On Wednesday the Dogs resumed their relentless offensive attack with Valicenti and Larason going deep. They were aided by Ferrara (3 for 3, 2 RBI), Mario Picariello (2 for 2) and Hutchins (2 for 2).

Seadogs 8, Peters Township (PA) 0

In the semi-finals on Thursday, AJ Ferrara struckout 13 in a complete game two hitter. Joe Roddy homered while Salkind (2 for 3, 3 RBI) and Larason (2 for 2, double, RBI) continued their torrid hitting.

Texas Raiders 7, Seadogs 5 (10 innings)

The Seadogs scored twice in the first before single Texas tallies in the second and fifth tied it. It stayed that way until the top of the tenth when the Raiders scored five times, four by way of a grand slam. In the bottom half, the never say die Seadogs narrowed the gap to 7-5 on a three run bomb by Austin Salkind, his fifth of the tourney. Nick Valicenti followed with a basehit before the rally ended.
