10's, 11's and 14's Begin NEAAU Tourney!

The Seadogs will send five teams into NEAAU Tournament play this upcoming weekend. Both 10 and 11 year old teams will test the tourney waters as will the 14's.

Coach King's veteran squad will start things out in the Super Division Friday night at Millis HS against the Hit Doctor Diamonds before playing two games each Saturday and Sunday to complete the six team pool.

Coach Dan Rice will lead his 11 GOLD squad into the Open Division tourney at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island with twinbills Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday at 11:00 they'll play the NE Heat followed by the Baystate Bulldogs. On Sunday at 9:00 it's the Blackstone Valley Spinners.

11U BLUE

 

On the weekend before the start of the New England AAU tournament the Seadogs struggled but came away with a doubleheader split on Saturday against Firebirds Red, a 12-2 loss and a 4-3 win…and a Sunday sweep, 11-9 in extra innings and 9-5, from the New England Wolfpac.

Firebirds RED 12, Seadogs 2

Seadogs jumped in front 2-0 in the second inning when Dylan Russo singled to score Cody Carr and Johnny Rorke crossed on a 4-6-3 double play. The lead stood until the Firebirds erupted for four in the fourth and a clinching eight more in the fifth assisted by an assortment of walks, wild pitches and Seadog errors along with five base-hits.

Seadogs 4, Firebirds RED 3

The Seadogs salvaged a split in the nightcap scoring three in the bottom of the 5th after trailing 2-1 coming into the inning. Tommy Larason hammered a two run home run off the fence railing in right center, his second of the season, scoring Austin Salkind, who’d walked, to take a 4-2 lead. Salkind, the ‘Dogs starter, was touched for an unearned run in the top of the sixth, but earned the win scattering seven hits in a complete game effort. Gino LaRossa slammed his second home run of the season, scored twice and was 2-3 for the game.

Seadogs 11, NE Wolfpac 9 (8 innings)

It wasn’t pretty! But, the Seadogs came away with the opening game win on Sunday with two runs in the top of the 8th on RBI singles by Gino LaRossa and Cody Carr. The Wolfpac jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first inning and Tommy Larason started the second inning as the third Seadog pitcher and went the rest of the way to earn a tough, gutsy win and go to 4-0 for the year. Larason was 2-for-5 at the plate with two hits and an RBI and had offensive support from Gino LaRossa (3-5, RBI, 3 runs), Cody Carr (2-4, 3 RBI, 3B), Matt Cunningham (2-2/2 runs) and Drew Alexopoulos (2 RBI) as the ‘Dogs put up their 20th win of the season.

Seadogs 11, NE Wolfpac 5

A nine run first inning got the Seadogs on their way to the Sunday afternoon sweep. Johnny Rorke (RBI), Tommy Larason (3B/3 RBI), Gino LaRossa (RBI) and Dylan Russo (RBI) all had two hit ballgames in leading the Seadog attack LaRossa gets the win as the first of five Seadog pitchers to see action. He was followed to the mound by Cam Walsh, A. J. Ferrara, Drew Alexopoulos and Johnny Cuomo.

The Seadogs will go into next weekend’s Pool Play session of the NEAAU tournament as one of the top seeds and a 21-4 record.

 

10U BLUE

The 10U BLUE played two on Saturday with the Worcester Heat, playing to a seven inning 0-0 tie in the opener before winning the nightcap 6-3. On Sunday they swept the Firebirds RED 16-6 and 9-1.

In a classic pitchers' duel, Tyler Bell (6 IP, 11 K's) tossed six no-hit innings but was denied the win in a seven inning tie. Trevor Cooley had a pair of hits and also pitched the scoreless seventh.

Seadogs 6, Worcester Heat 3

Strong pitching from three 'Dogs hurlers and a big triple by Bryant Salkind paved the way to the second game win. Brian Umano, Brett Tivnan and Jack Donius each went two innings as the Seadogs' small ball attack led the offense.

Seadogs 16, Firebirds RED 6

The 'Dogs overcame a 5-0 first inning deficit with homeruns from Kevin Higgins, Brian Umano and Eric Keefe on their way to victory. Bailey Steele, Higgins and Bell each had two hits and reliever Austin LeBlanc faced the minimum nine batters over the last three innings.

Seadogs 9, Firebirds RED 1

Zack DelVecchio fanned 10 in four innings of work for the win and Austin LeBlanc added a homerun as the 'Dogs completed the Sunday sweep. Chris Ferraro had two hits and also pitched the final two innings. Brett Tivnan had a two-run double in the first.


10U GOLD

The 10 GOLDS won twice on Saturday before dropping a pair on Sunday.


Seadogs 5, Boston Broncos 3

Trailing 3-0 after four innings, the Seadogs Gold rallied with five runs in the fifth after two were out. Zack Silva's RBI single scored Ryan Corcoran to start the comeback. After Raul Morales reached on a hit, Jack Ruprecht tied the game at 3-3 with a triple to left center field. Francis Kokoros reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Ruprecht. With Kokoros on 3rd after two stolen bases, Sean Cornell drove in the insurance run for the final score. Daniel Murray (4 IP, 4 K) and Cole Roland (2 IP, 3 K, Save) pitched well in the victory. Austin Beringer contributed with two sparkling defensive plays at second base to help with the win.

Seadogs 5, Boston Broncos 3

Ryan Corcoran shut down the Broncos with 8 strikeouts in four innings as the Seadogs were able to sweep the doubleheader. Morales (3 hits, 2 SB, RBI), Silva (2 RBI) and Ruprecht (RBI, SB) delivered clutch hits in the 3rd and 5th innings. Sean Cornell came on in relief and held the Broncos scoreless with help from a leaping catch in right field by Antonio Tenaglia. Jason Pompey (IP, Save) came in a bases loaded, no out situation in the 6th and nailed down the win.


Quincy Red Stockings 10, Seadogs 0

Shaky defense and solid Red Stocking pitching led to the defeat. Zack Silva (5 IP, 8 K) pitched well in the loss as the Seadogs were held to one hit.

A see-saw game saw four lead changes until the Red Stocking offense erupted for a five run 6th to take the win. Robert Hutchins (RBI), Cole Roland (H, RBI), Ruprecht (RBI, R), Murray (RBI, SB) and Tenaglia (R, 2 SB) provided the offense.





11U GOLD

A shorthanded Seadogs 11U Gold team endured a tough weekend, dropping both ends of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.

Quincy Future Stars 4, Seadogs 0

On Saturday, the Dogs dropped the first game to the Quincy Future Stars, 4-0, squandering a solid pitching performance from Joe Divico.

Quincy Future Stars 8, Seadogs 4

In the second game, the Dogs fell 8-4. Kyle Lussier threw two innings of strong relief and had two hits for the Dogs.

Legends BLUE 11, Seadogs 2

On Sunday, the Dogs were walloped by the league leading Legends Blue team, 11-2 in the opener.

Legends BLUE 5, Seadogs 3

Iin the second game the 'Dogs showed some grit, taking a 3-2 lead into the fifth, as pitcher Kyle Lussier quieted the Legends big bats. The 'Dogs runs came on an RBI single from Brendan Smith in the second, and back to back RBI doubles from Mason Johnson (scoring Christopher DeGiacomo) and Smith (scoring Johnson) in the fourth. The Legends club scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, however, and retired the Dogs hitters 1-2-3 in the sixth for a 5-3 win.


 


15U

The 15U squad got their season underway on Sunday by winning twice over the Grand Slam Riverdogs in Middleboro.

Jesse Loughlin
got the win with five strong innings (5 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 7 K's) and Jeff Cavanaro had two hits and two RBI as the 'Dogs played flawless defense. Joe Zanca added a pair of hits and Troy Salvatore had a hit and scored twice from the leadoff spot.

Seadogs 8, Riverdogs 1

A five run sixth inning broke open a close game and made a winner of starting pitcher Phil Sciretta (6 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 6 K's). Salvatore (3 for 4, 2B, 3B, SB, R) was a major catalyst at the top of the order while Matt Goreham had two hits and two RBI. Collin Rozanski added a booming two-run triple.

 

13U BLUE

The 13 BLUES won three times to up their record to 33-2.


Seadogs 11, Ballplayers 2

After an early rain delay the day was downgraded to one nine inning game. Sean Heelen worked the first four innings and Sammy Falkson came on to pitch five scoreless frames. The defense was fantastic, as usual. Offensively, Cam Hanley (2 hits, 3 RBI) Heelen (2 hits, RBI) and Danny Dougherty (bases loaded triple) led the charge. Justin Lloyd, Johnny Adams and Tim Sullivan collected the other RBIs, while Todd MacDonald hit a rocket double that clanged off the fence.

Sunday

Seadogs 8 Ramblers 7

Donny May survived a shaky first inning and battled back to pitch great over the next three innings. Kevin Murphy worked well in relief. May and Murphy led the offense, too, both collecting two hits and two RBI.

Seadogs 14 Ramblers 6

The Dogs put up six in the top of the first and never looked back. Joe Manni was the offensive star, collecting three hits (single/double/triple) and added 4 RBI. Vinny Scifo pitched great to earn the win and also helped his cause with two hits and two RBI. Lloyd added a towering 2-run homerun, while Murphy added two more hits.

 

14U

The 14U won three of four on the weeknd as they head into the NEAAU Super Division tourney.

Mass Pride 11, Seadogs 6

It was an uphill battle all the way after the Pride scored seven times in the first. Reliever Chris Kingsley did a fine job to give the 'Dogs a chance. Homeruns by Dan King and Craig Hanley cut into the lead but were not enough.

Seadogs 13, Mass Pride 2

Things were reversed this times as the Seadogs scored nine times in the first and cruised. Chris Hoyt (4 for 4, 3 runs) led the attack while Will Sullivan homered. Alex Connolly and Jake Connelly shared pitching duties.

Seadogs 7, Plymouth Cardinals 2

Andrew Vandini went the distance is his second career Seadog start as the'Dogs played a fine defensive game led by Kingsley at shortstop.

Seadogs 10, Plymouth Cardinals 6

Alex Way hit a long, three-run homerun and drove in five runs to lead the 'Dogs from a 6-3 deficit. A seven-run fifth inning capped the comeback. Mike Baryski got the save as the fourth Seadogs pitcher. He followed Hoyt, Kingsley and Alex Connolly.

 

12U GOLD

On Sunday the 12U GOLDS split with the Boston Junior Rams, winning 4-3 and then losing 6-2.

Shane Rossi tossed five strong innings to get the win in his debut on the hill. Dave Hutchins pitched the sixth for the save. Pat Horrocks and Joe Leahy each made key defensive plays to preserve the win. Christian Callahan, Ricky Smith (2 doubles) and Alex Berluti led the offense with two hits each in this errorless baseball game.

Boston Junior Rams 6, Seadogs 2

Matt Brazel homered and Shane Rossi added a pair of hits but the 'Dogs couldn't get the big hits when needed as they dropped game two.

 

12U BLUE

On Sunday the 12U BLUES split a doubleheader with tough Team Nokona, losing 3-0 before winning 7-0.

Nokona 3, Seadogs 0

Nokona scored once in the fifth and twice in the sixth while southpaw Bellinger held the 'Dogs to five hits in the shutout effort. Gus Culpo took the loss in a very well pitched game.

Seadogs 7, Nokona 0

Jesse Feldstein returned the favor with a complete game shutout (6 IP, 5 K's) as Andrew Haser (3 for 3, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, run) and Jarred Montero (2 hits) swung potent bats.

 

13U GOLD

The 13U GOLDS battled their way to one win in four games.

Hit Doctor Diamonds 6, Seadogs 2

A five run rally in the bottom of the sixth led to the way in the opener for the Hit Doctors. Seadog Danny White had two hits and John Sullivan tripled and scored.

Hit Doctor Diamonds 16, Seadogs 6

Mark Poli's two hits were a lone bright spot as the HDD's pounded from start to finish.

Seadogs 18, Athlete's Edge 4

The Seadogs got strong pitching from Brody Loughlin and Pat Carroll and a strong team offensive showing in the opening win at Harvard University on Sunday. Mike Lenane led the way with three hits while Rob Madden, Drew Saltmarsh, Loughlin and Poli each chimed in with a pair.

Athlete's Edge 4, Seadogs 1

Danny White and Mike Lenane both pitched well but the bats were silenced. Saltmarsh had two hits including a triple.
