13 BLUES Roll in Long Island!

The Victorious 13 BLUES

April 2, 2008

The Seadogs 13u Blue team captured the 18-team Pre-season Bash Championship played at Baseball Heaven in Long Island, NY this past weekend. After going 3-0 in pool play, the Dogs won two hard fought games in the semifinals (7-2) and championship (4-3) games, finishing the tournament with 5 wins and 0 losses.

The pitching and defense were spectacular all weekend, allowing just 10 runs in 5 games. Leading the way on the mound were Joey Guarino (6 IP, 0 runs), Donny May (4 IP, 2 runs allowed in the semi game), Vinny Scifo (4 IP, 1 run allowed in the championship game), Kevin Murphy (3 IP, 0 runs), Justin Lloyd (great relief work all weekend), and Sam Falkson (clinching the championship with a two out save with two men on base).

The infield defense was superb, led by Johnny Adams, Todd MacDonald, Tim Sullivan, Scifo and Murphy, while Joe Manni was a force behind the plate. Danny Dougherty led the way in the oitfield.

Offensively, Cam Hanley and Manni hit bullets all over the field for much of the tournament, driving in Adams and Murphy who were on base all weekend. MacDonald also hit the ball hard and ran the bases extremely well. In the championship game, the bats were led by Tommy Landry (single, triple, 2 RBI), Lloyd (key double to drive in the first run, and Falkson (a great sacrifice bunt to get the offense going in the 5th inning when trailing 1-0).

Trevor Cooley's second inning grand slam started the Dogs on the road back from an early 7-0 deficit. Other key hits in the comeback were provided by Jack Donius, Bailey Steele and Zack DelVecchio. DelVecchio got the win in relief with four K's over the final three innings.

The Dogs scored ten in the first and never looked back. Donius, Cooley and Kyle Heffernan had three hits each while Bryant Salkind, Bailey Steele, Eric Keefe and Tyler Bell each banged out two. Starting pitcher Kevin Higgins got the win with Heffernan tossing 2 1/3 quality innings out of the pen. The game ended on a nifty 4-6-3 double play handled by Chris Ferraro, Chris O'Brien and Bryant Salkind.
