2008 Champion Long Island Titans
The Long Island Titans scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to put the finishing touches on a rousing comeback in a 6-3 win over the host Seadogs BLUE on Sunday in the Championship Game of the Ninth Annual Select Six tourney. Trailing 3-0 early, the Titans plated singled runs in the fourth and fifth to narrow the lead to 3-2 before the sixth inning uprising. A Bryan Vebitsky double and a Richard Doyle walk along with a free pass set the stage for RBI singles from Matt Benedetto and Ryan Dunleavy. The Titans won for the second time, having claimed the crown previously in 2004. Bryan Verbitsky was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
The All-Tournament Team included four Titans - Thomas Tolan, Bryan Verbitsky (.500, 2 double, 2 triple, HR), Matt Benedetto (.529, 3 doubles) and Ed Macalouso (complete game shutout). The runner-up Seadogs BLUE were represented by Shawn Heide (.471, 4 HR's, 11 RBI) and Mike Dodakian. The Royals were represented by Cam MacDonald (.462, CG win, save), the Bombers by Dan St. George (.563, triple, HR), the Bonnies by Louis Mastandrea and the Seadogs GOLD by AJ DeBenedictis (.526, 5 doubles, HR).
