"Seadogs"Select Six 2007

MVP Josh Band

FINAL DAY - July 8

Seadogs 6, Navigators 2

Josh Band went three for three, with two doubles, two RBI, three runs scored and put on a virtuoso performance defensively at shortstop to lead the Seadogs to victory in the championship game. Tom Donovan added a double and a triple in support of Band. Chris Carmain (5 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 3 K's) and Eric Hailer (2 IP, 0 H, HB) combined on the mound to control the Navigators.

The story of the game was the Seadogs shortstop. In the top of the first the Navigators loaded the bases with no outs before Eric MacIver's hard hit ball up the middle was turned into a nifty 4-6-3 double play by Chris Amrhein and Band, limiting the Navigators to just one run. In the bottom half, Band lashed a single to left and after a Donovan walk he would score on a single by T.J. Larivee. Chris King's sacrifice fly gave the Seadogs the lead.

In the second, a two out Band RBI double scored Hailer (single) and was followed by Donovan's RBI triple. The fourth inning saw more of the Band-Donovan combination as they ripped back to back two out RBI doubles.

Defensively, Band hadled ten chances flawlessly, most notably an up the middle, diving, rally killer in the fourth. Band's performance was capped off with him being named the Tournament MVP.

Titans 4, Bombers 1

Earlier in the day, the surging Titans got a complete game, three-hit effort from Joe Romano (7 IP, 3 H, 2 BB's, 2 K's) to claim third place. Michael Guarnieri's solo homerun was all the Bombers could muster.

DAY FOUR - July 7

The Titans Celebrate Steve Shea's Homerun

Titans 12, Navigators 8

The Titans rallied back from an early deficit to win their second game in a row. Phil Parker (3 for 3, double, triple), Jason Lapiana (3 for 4, 2 runs, RBI), Dan Scanlon (2 for 3, run) and Steve Shea (2 run HR) were all major forces in the comeback.

KC Murphy (2 for 2, HR, 3 RBI) hit his third homerun for the Navigators.

Bombers 7, Royals 0

Oliver Van Zant and Shaun Coughlin combined on a three-hit shutout and Joe Ciancola (2 for 3, 2 runs, RBI) and David Beisler (3 for 4, double, 2 RBI) continued their hot hitting as the Bombers blanked the Royals.

Seadogs 6, Ramblers 4

The Seadogs rode a five run third inning and escaped a bases loaded jam in the seventh as they moved to 5-0. Tom Donovan's two run homer and Andrew Belmonte's two run triple were the key hits in the third. Chris Amrhein had two more hits. Ryan Harris (2 for 4) and Sean Amaral (RBI double) led the way for the Ramblers.

Royals 9, Ramblers 1

Mike Verrochi's complete game three-hitter and Steve Perakslis' two run homer in the first led the Royals to victory. With the win, the Royals secured fifth place. Sunday's 2:00 PM game will not be played.

DAY THREE - July 6

Tyler Dennis

Navigators 6, Royals 2

KC Murphy had a solo homer and added two other hits and Alex Criscuolo went two for three, with a double and 3 RBI and the Navs topped the Royals in the first game of the day.

Navigators 7, Ramblers 5

Tyler Dennis put on a show with three homeruns and 4 RBI to lead the Navs to their third straight win. KC Murphy (2 for 3) added a double and a homerun, his second of the day. Chris Basler was the complete game winner. The win put the Navs record at 3 wins and 1 loss.

Titans 10, Ramblers 6

A six run sixth inning propelled the Titans to their first win of the tourney. Thomas Pinnola (3 for 3, double, 4 RBI) led the attack. John Simmons (3 for 3, double, RBI) was the Ramblers big hitter.

Nick Bonofiglio (L) and Chris Amrhein (R)

Seadogs 4, Bombers 0

Nick Bonofiglio (4 IP, 2 BB's, 2 K's) and Chris Amrhein (3 IP, 1 BB, 7 K's) tossed a combined no-hitter as the Seadogs broke open a 1-0 game with three in the sixth for some breathing room. Amrhein's (2 for 4) first inning homerun was all the scoring until the sixth when Chris King's opposite field long ball made it 2-0. Later in the frame, Andrew Belmonte's RBI single preceded Tom Donovan's RBI single to close out the scoring. The win moves the Seadogs to 4-0 and assures them a place in Sunday's championship game.

DAY TWO - July 5

Ramblers, Royals

The 9:00 AM game was postponed due to wet field conditions and will be played on Saturday at 5:00 PM.

Hunter Gordon

Seadogs 3, Titans 0

The Seadogs moved to 3-0 as Hunter Gordon's (7 IP, 9 K's, 0 BB's) took a perfect game into the sixth before settling for a two-hit shutout. Joseph Miata took a tough loss for the Titans as he held the Seadogs scoreless for the first four innings. In the fifth, Andrew Belmonte singled and stole second and would score on a misplayed sacrifice bunt. Chris Amrhein's squeeze bunt scored the second run and Tom Donovan's RBI double closed out the scoring.

Joe Ciancola

Bombers 9, Titans 1

Joe Ciancola was the complete game winner as the Bombers moved to 2-0 in the tourney. They scored early and often behind Elvin Rodriguez (2 for 3, 2 runs, 2 SB's) and Shaun Coughlin (3 for 3, 2 RBI). Kevin Landers and Mike Guarnieri both added a double and an RBI.

Navigators 9, Bombers 1

Alex Criscuolo's two out, two run single in the first keyed a four run rally that sent the Navs on their way and got them into the win column. Sam Koonce hit his second homerun of the tourney and Tyler Dennis (2 for 2, 3 runs, double) provided additional punch. Billy Doherty (5 IP, 2 H, 4 K's) was the winning pitcher.

Sam Koonce Homered Each of the First Two Days

DAY ONE - July 4

Seadogs 10, Navigators 2

Sam Koonce led off the game with a homerun, but it was the lone Navigator highlight once the Seadogs offense got going. TJ Larivee (2 for 3, 4 RBI) and Chris King (1 for 2, double, run) led the attack while Eric Hailer (5 IP, 3 BB, 4 K's) was the winning pitcher.

Seadogs 12, Royals 5

Chris Amrhein (4 for 4, 3 runs, 2 doubles) and Eric Hailer (2 for 2, HR, 4 RBI) led the way while Tom Donovan and Chris King each added a pair of hits. Anthony Lambiase (1 for 3, run, RBI, 2 SB's) did a little of everything for the Royals.

Titans 5, Royals 5

The Titans and Royals battled to an eight inning tie in the 2:00 PM game. The Royals Steve Perakslis' two homer homer in the fifth deadlocked things at five. For the Titans, Dan Scanlon (3 for 4, double, SB), Matt Prescia (2 for 3, double, triple, 2 RBI, SB) and Leor Needleman (3 for 4, 2 RBI) provided the offense. On the Royals side Justin Deandrade, Tyler Hitchcock and Max Suarez each had a pair of hits.

Elvin Rodriguez

Bombers 9, Ramblers 0

The Team Connecticut Bombers banged out twelve hits in the mercy shortened opener for both teams, led by Joe Ciancola's three hits (2 doubles), three runs and an RBI. Elvin Rodriguez (4 IP, 2 H, 3 K's) picked up the win.
